About CustomArray

WHAT IS THE CUSTOMARRAY SYSTEM?

The CustomArray system is a unique system for the in situ synthesis of oligonucleotide microarrays made to your specifications. You design the the content for your microarrays, or you can use the design services that we offer. We ship the microarrays to you within 30 business days.

HOW DOES THE CUSTOMARRAY SYSTEM WORK?

The custom oligonucleotide microarray is synthesized using a semiconductor-based electrochemical-synthesis process. Each oligonucleotide probe is synthesized via a platinum electrode that is independently controlled by the synthesizer’s computer. Synthesis is based on established phosphoramidite chemistry and occurs at thousands of sites simultaneously according to a computer algorithm that activates only specified electrodes. Since physical photolithographic masks or pre-built collections of oligos are not involved in the process, all probes can be easily changed without extra time or cost.

The oligonucleotides are synthesized in a proprietary porous reaction layer that is over the surface of the semiconductor. The resultant chip is shown in Fig.1.

HOW ARE CUSTOMARRAY MICROARRAYS DIFFERENT FROM SPOTTED ARRAYS?

CustomArray has an in situ synthesis technology. Oligonucleotide probes are synthesized using the chip. This means there are no upfront costs of buying hundreds of different oligonucleotides, maintaining inventory, and spotting these agents. Making changes to chip designs and layouts is rapid and easy.

HOW IS CUSTOMARRAY'S TECHNOLOGY DIFFERENT FROM OTHER IN SITU SYNTHESIS TECHNOLOGIES?

CustomArray's chips use electrochemical detritylation to control DNA synthesis. Electrochemical detritylation can be a much-more-efficient method to synthesize oligonucleotides than light-based synthesis processes. This means the oligonucleotides are of highest quality, and the sensitivity of the microarray is maximized. Since physical photolithographic masks or pre-built collections of oligos are NOT involved in the process, all probes can be easily changed without extra time or costs.

WHAT CAN I USE CUSTOMARRAY'S MICROARRAYS FOR?

From CustomArray, you can be order whole microarrays just like ordering oligos!

The arrays can be used for for applications including gene expression, miRNA expression analysis, rapid identification of pathogens in biological samples, identification of prevalent flu strains and flu type within patient samples, comparative genome hybridization (CGH), SNP analysis and detection, re-sequencing, and chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) on chip. Optimized probes can be designed based against a set of genes submitted by a customer as GenBank accession numbers or raw sequence data. We can also accept customer-specified oligonucleotide probe sequences.
